The Deanship of Research, Innovation, and Graduate Studies serves as the authoritative body for research chairs, responsible for providing the necessary administrative and technical support to help them achieve their overall objectives. It also oversees the financial aspects of research chairs in accordance with approved regulatory frameworks and operational plans. Additionally, its duties include conducting periodic evaluations of the performance of research chairs. The Prince Faisal bin Salman Chair for Humanizing Cities is a pioneering initiative that reflects His Royal Highness’s deep commitment to developing cities to make them more livable in the long term and to achieving a high quality of life. The Chair aims to integrate academic knowledge with practical application by focusing on the principles of humanization in urban and city planning, sustainability principles, and related fields, incorporating them into the curricula of relevant disciplins at University of Prince Muqrin bin Abdulaziz University. The Chair committed to exploring how urban spaces can be designed, governed, and experienced to promote human well-being, social equity, and cultural vitality This Chair’s model differs from traditional academic chairs in that it relies on:
Attracting a distinguished group of experts and researchers from around the world to transfer and localize knowledge across diverse fields related to humanizing cities. These fields include urban planning, architecture, civil engineering, environmental engineering, renewable energy, artificial intelligence, the Internet of Things, and smart cities. The goal is to develop applied educational and research programs that address the critical economic, social, and environmental challenges facing cities today.
Allowing admission for students from both inside and outside the university to enroll in academic courses and programs related to humanizing cities as either general elective or specialized elective subjects that count towards their academic plans.
Hosted by UPM, the chair brings together interdisciplinary expertise to examine the complex relationship between people and the urban environments they inhabit.
